The beauty, truth,
and freedom of canyons and rivers pulse through Serena Supplee. The
landscapes of the Colorado Plateau and its heartbeat take form through
her colorful palette. Her "on location" paintings are touched by rock,
wind, fire, and ice. She paints the magnificence of canyons, the
splendor of starlight, the undulating power of rivers, the towering
grandeur of cottonwood trees, and the mysterious symbols of the ancient
ones.
In
canyon
country, every change of light presents amazing views which flow
through Serena onto her canvas in a brilliant interpretation of color,
space, time, and emotion. Her canvases stimulate feelings of joy and
liberation or stun you into silence. |

Originally from Iowa,
Serena earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at
Northern Arizona University. Her work has appeared in more than 50
one-woman shows throughout the Southwest. She completed a series of
paintings focused
on the rapids and the Inner Gorge of the Grand Canyon. Serena’s first
book,
Inner Gorge Metaphors, features a collection of 52 of these paintings
with poems. Presently she is working on a new series that starts with
the temples of the Grand Canyon and leads us to places of sanctuary.
Serena works in watercolors, oils, and sculpture. She also uses the
Giclee printing process, making it possible to produce a print of her
paintings. Serena loves to paint plein air, outdoors on location. She
also does many sketches on site which are later transformed into
paintings at her Moab studio. Works in progress and finished paintings
and sculptures may be seen at the studio by appointment. Two of her
graceful sandstone-inspired sculptures are on public display in the
City of Moab.
